Responding to a rapid shift in the political landscape for the 2024 Elections, LUPE Votes has endorsed Kamala Harris for President.
Rio Grande Valley, Texas— LUPE Votes, a grassroots political organization based in the Rio Grande Valley, has endorsed Kamala Harris for President. Through a community-led endorsement process, the organization shifted its original plans to not endorse a presidential candidate after President Biden dropped his re-election bid.
Dani Marrero Hi, deputy director of LUPE Votes, said, “This Election is about more than just any one candidate— it’s about our families, our future, and our freedoms. We are backing Kamala Harris to reject Trump’s extremist Project 2025 agenda that wants to take away our freedoms and drag us backwards. We’re building the power we need to protect the vast majority of border voters who want a state and country where all of us can thrive and live with dignity, no matter our race, genders, or background. A LUPE Votes endorsement signals which candidates we believe will work alongside the Pueblo to achieve that purpose. We’re ready to push through to Election Day and get Harris into office and continue organizing with working families in South Texas for generations to come.”
In addition to Harris, LUPE Votes is backing Michelle Vallejo for Texas Congressional District 15. The organization launched in 2021 after Rep. Vicente Gonzalez dropped his bid for TX-15 and left the seat open. LUPE Votes nominated and later endorsed Michelle Vallejo, and she successfully became the Democratic nominee.
