2026 Midterm Elections
Federal Candidate Endorsements
What does "endorsed with conditions" mean?
In key Rio Grande Valley congressional races, we are endorsing candidates not out of full alignment, but out of necessity. If their far-right opponents win, having all three Valley congressional seats flip Republican would trigger an unprecedented alarm for our border communities, immigrant families, and working people.
Our recommendations for voters are:
- Henry Cuellar for U.S. House 28
- Vicente Gonzalez for U.S. House 34
Electing these candidates does not mean the fight will be easy. It means protecting the ground we stand on so we can continue organizing for real social change, rather than fighting in a regional political landscape that will be completely hostile to the interests of our Pueblo.
Our endorsement is not a blanket approval of the candidates. If they continue to vote against our community’s best interests, the Pueblo will act. This includes inflating ICE funding, militarizing our communities, criminalizing people for personal decisions over their own bodies and how they form their families, and discriminating Texans for simply living authentically as they are. We will not hesitate to withhold future support and build community-led alternatives to replace them in the next election.
Our vote is a tool, but our real Pueblo power lives in how we organize together every single day.
State Candidate Endorsements
Our process
Community-led
LUPE Votes creates a committee composed of community members who represent diverse demographics.
Applications open
Campaigns submit their endorsement questionnaire. Our committee reviews all applications and selects which candidates to invite for an interview.
Candidate interviews
Selected candidates are invited for a panel interview with our committee.
Final vote
The committee submits endorsement recommendations to the LUPE Votes board. The board deliberates and has a final vote to make all endorsements official.
Pueblo endorsements go live
We formally announce the endorsement and mobilize our canvassers and volunteers to win!
